The Universities’ Academic Staff Union has directed all lectures in 35 public universities across the country that they should decist from teaching as from 30th August 2021.
According to a letter to all stuffs, signed by the Union’s Secretary General Dr. Constantine Wasonga, the attention of the 7 days strike was drawn from the judgement of the Employment and Labour Relations Court in the case ELRC CBA No2/2020 Inter-public Universities Councils Consultative Forum of the Fedaration of Kenya Employers (IPUCCF) verses Universities’ Academic Staff Union (UASU). in which the Hounarable Court on 15th January 2021 ordered thatthe UASU – IPUCCF 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement be implemented as signed and registered except for the clause of the Retirement Age.
Lecturers will therefore begin their 7 days strike on monday 30th Augustt 2021 after the Council of All Public Univrtsities and Constituent Colleges failed to implement the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement following the attempts of the UASU dialogue with the Council of All thr Public Universities and Constituent Colleges to resolve the matter.
The UASU has issues the strike over the failure to fully implement the UASU-IPUCCF 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement,. They will also protest the unconstitutional and unlawful violation of the constitution of Kenya 2010 article 41(1), (2a) and (5).
The Lecturers will also protest the blatant violations of the fundamental rights and freedom of Universities’ academoc staffs. The SG UASU also noted that the members of the Union in all public universities and constituent colleges shall withdraw their labour and shall not resume day until their grievances have been heard and fully implemented.
